Poppop’s Voice

This ceramic piece depicts a retro microphone, a homage to my great-grandfather, who passed when I was very young. While I can still remember countless memories of him, the sound of his voice has slipped away with time. Something he used to use to tell me stories, speak to me kindly and serenade our family with. The microphone's cracks, chips, and broken edges reflect this loss. A visual representation of the absence of his voice in my memory. This piece speaks to the grief of forgetting, capturing the delicate and painful realization that some parts of a person can be lost, even when their memory remains.
