The Memory of Him

This painting serves as a tender exploration of grief, loss, and the quiet fear of forgetting. The piece is a depiction of my late father, the photo that it was created from was one that was taken when I was a child. Through the use of smears, I capture the inevitable fading of memory, a soft blur that distorts parts of my father. It reflects the painful truth of time eroding the details I now hold so dearly. Each tiny feature, like the crosshatching of his tattoo or his small hoop earring, is a confrontation with loss. Transforming the ache of his absence into something real and raw. As the image slips in and out of clarity, it mirrors the way memory falters, reminding me that one day I will have more years without my father than with him.
