Max & Ruby

This ceramic cake is a nod to my childhood, a tangible duplicate of the cake in Max & Ruby. My favorite show and a series intertwined with my earliest memories. The cake appears to be torn or almost ripped into. A bite mark and a small baby handprint mark its surface, a physical representation of holding onto something, even if it means destroying it. It is the aching need and want to inch back to a place I can no longer go, to confront the agony of nostalgia and the inevitable act of letting go. With this piece, I explore the grief between keeping the past and accepting its fleeting nature.
